Meet the Team

Read McNamaraRead McNamara

Assistant Dean, Corporate Partnerships

Read came to Owen after a successful 35-year career in the private sector. He holds a BA from Colgate, an MA from Vanderbilt in Latin American Studies, and an MBA from Wharton. McNamara has held officer-level senior executive positions at Fortune 500 companies including Gillette, Pillsbury, Revlon and Bausch & Lomb. He has had full P&L responsibility for Asia and Latin America, and has lived in six different countries in Latin America and Asia. He founded and was a partner at CXO Management Consultants, and came to Owen 2010. He has served as a director of both publicly owned companies and non-profits, including a term as a director of the Colgate Alumni Corporation. Read and his wife of 39 years, Mary, have five grown children and four grandchildren. They all enjoy the McNamara cottage in Popham Beach, Maine.

Emily Anderson Emily Anderson

Director of Career Management Center

Career Path Expertise: Consulting and Finance

Emily graduated from Texas A&M University with BS degrees in petroleum engineering and geology and spent nine years working as a production and reservoir engineer for Kerr-McGee Corporation (now Anadarko) in the Gulf of Mexico Division in Lafayette, LA. Emily graduated from Owen in 1999 with her MBA, concentrating in finance and operations management. Upon graduation from Owen, Emily joined HP in Loveland, CO, as a financial analyst and then as a supply chain analyst. Emily has been at Owen in the Career Management Center since November 2001 and works primarily with students interested in finance and consulting.

Blake GoreBlake Gore

Senior Associate Director, CMC Coach
Career Path Expertise: Master in Finance

Early in his career, Blake realized that vocation is more than a job - it's an expression of your life's calling. Fascinated with this reality, he helps students discover where their gifts intersect with the world's needs and supports them as they transition into meaningful, fulfilling careers. Since joining the Career Management Center at Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management in 2010, Blake splits his time between working with MBAs and students seeking the MS Finance degree. He is a National Certified Counselor and a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Mississippi, where he earned his BA and an MEd in Counselor Education from the University of Mississippi. After serving as a Career Planning Specialist and Course Instructor at the University of Mississippi’s Career Center, he became the Director of Huntingdon College’s Center for Career and Vocation in Montgomery, AL. Before joining the career services team at Vanderbilt, he was recruited to Nashville to be an Associate at Stanton Chase International, a top 10 global retained executive search firm with 70 offices located in 43 countries. A husband and father of four, Blake spends a lot of time attending soccer games and dance rehearsals. However, he sometimes is able to slip away to do non-profit work and explore hole-in-the-wall eateries around Nashville.

Sandy KinnettSandy Kinnett

Senior Associate Director, CMC Coach
Career Path Expertise: HOP, Real Estate and Operations

Sandy graduated from the University of Richmond with a BS degree in Business and a minor in U.S. History. Upon graduation, she spent five years working as an Account Manager for Equifax Information Services, Inc. in Atlanta, Georgia. In her role at Equifax, Sandy managed a portfolio of financial and retail institutions in Georgia and South Carolina. Upon moving to Nashville in November 2005, Sandy joined the Career Management Center team at Owen. As an Associate Director, she works as a career coach to students pursuing careers in Human Resources, Operations and Real Estate and also serves as the Owen team lead on off-campus recruiting events.

Amanda FendAmanda Fend

Senior Associate Director, CMC Coach
Career Path Expertise: Marketing and Health Care

After graduating from Middlebury College with a BA in English, Amanda spent several years in New York working in financial communications with Joele Frank, Wilkinson Brimmer Katcher, a leading transaction and crisis communications firm, and later at Burson-Marsteller, an international public relations firm. After earning her MBA at Owen in May 2009, during which she focused on marketing and finance and spent a summer with JPMorgan, Amanda joined the Chicago office of Tiller LLC, where she helped asset management clients develop research-based advocacy marketing and communications programs. Amanda later rejoined Burson-Marsteller’s Chicago office where she developed communications programs for clients including Bank of America, Accenture and Discover. Amanda joined the Career Management Center team at Owen in February 2012, and in her role as an Associate Director, coaches students pursuing careers in marketing and healthcare and focuses on employer development in the greater Nashville area.

Brook MeissnerBrook Meissner

Senior Associate Director, CMC Coach
Career Path Expertise: Finance and International Advisor

Brook has been involved in various departments at Vanderbilt since 2005 - most recently at the Center for Student Professional Development. He worked primarily with Vanderbilt undergraduates pursuing finance and banking positions and with the employers interested in these students. Since work transitions are often a complex time, Brook is honored to partner with and to leverage the strengths of individuals during these periods of change and growth. He holds his MEd from Peabody’s Human Development Counseling program. Before that he taught at an international private school in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Brook enjoys having the chance to be involved in the classroom. He earned his BA, majoring in History and minoring in Psychology and Theology, from Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL. Brook and his wife Cara have one child. When he isn’t spending time with his family, enjoying good food, or working with friends on a startup business, Brook is game for opportunities to learn something new and welcomes quality book or movie recommendations.

Megan DensonMegan (Denson) Nichols

Associate Director, Master of Marketing

Megan provides student career coaching and leads employer relationship development for the Master of Marketing program. Megan graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Communications.  After graduation, Megan moved back to her hometown of Nashville and joined the staff of Cumberland Heights and later the Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health as a marketing coordinator.  In March 2012, she joined the Owen Career Management Center where she has worked in recruiting and operations, serving as a primary contact for our employer partners for all recruiting activities. Megan has been an outstanding contributor in the Career Management Center. In 2016, we were very excited to have her move into this new role. Megan is a devoted Volunteer fan, but loves attending Vanderbilt sporting events and just about anything that Nashville has to offer!

Lacy Nelson Associate DirectorLacy Nelson

Senior Associate Director, Executive and Alumni Career Services

Lacy joined the Career Management Center team at Owen in January 2014 as Associate Director of Executive and Alumni Career Services. Prior to Owen, Lacy owned now2planB, a career and leadership development coaching firm based in Nashville, TN. Lacy is a certified Career Coach with two decades of career coaching experience with individual and corporate clients. Know for her warm coaching style, Lacy motivates and encourages her clients to achieve their career and personal goals. Among Lacy's certifications are the designations of Professional Certified Coach (PCC) by the International Coach Federation, Certified Career Management Professional and Certified Leadership and Talent Management Coach. She is certified in the Lominger Voices 360, the Hogan Leadership Forecast Series, and the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (Charter Certification). Lacy has a Master's degree in Human Resource Development from Vanderbilt University and an undergraduate degree from Tulane University. A native Nashvillian, Lacy grew up cheering for Vanderbilt's football and basketball teams.

Sylvia Boyd Sylvia Boyd

Associate Director, Alumni Career Services and Employer Relations

Sylvia has worked at Owen for over 20 years, and is often referred to as the "institutional memory of Owen". Prior to joining the Career Management Center in 2004, she spent the first 12 years in Alumni and Development. Currently she serves as the main point of contact, triaging alumni needs as they reach out to initiate Career Services. She manages email blast of job search and career-related educational, programming and networking opportunities, and co-leads Alumni Job Seekers Group. Sylvia also supports the Managing Director, CMC and Corporate Affairs in maintaining and growing the CMC alumni employer relations outreach program. Sylvia lives in Hendersonville, TN with her husband, son and two dogs but her home is always filled, entertaining family and friends, celebrating life events.

Heather YockeyHeather Yockey

Associate Director, Recruiting and Operations

BA—Pensacola Christian College, 2001

Over the sweep of her career, Heather has served in a myriad of roles at Owen Graduate School of Management. Along the way, working with the MBA, EMBA, MSFinance and MAcc Admissions recruiting departments Heather gained varied perspectives and experience which she brought in 2016 to the Career Management Center team where she serves as Associate Director of Recruiting and Operations. As a primary contact for employer partners and recruiting activities at Owen, she acts as touch point between students and employers. Her past experience in the academia and the event industry has helped her to define goals, objectives and specific implementation plans as she seeks to help recruiters navigate meeting the top talent at Owen. A native Nashvillian, Heather enjoys spending time in her favorite spot of the city, East Nashville, with her husband and dog.   When not facilitating recruiting, Heather enjoys photography,  local music events, exploring the outdoors and she will never turn down a good cup of coffee.

Courtney Fain / CMCCourtney Fain

Associate Director, Recruiting and Operations

Courtney graduated from Furman University with a B.A. in Fine Art, and went on to attend The George Washington University graduating with a Master’s in Higher Education Administration. She joins the Owen Career Management Center after working in the Dean’s Office at the University of Richmond School of Law for over 4 years. Courtney will serve as a primary contact for our employer partners and oversee the recruiting activities in the CMC. In her spare time, Courtney enjoys spending time with her dog, Nash, trying out new coffee shops, traveling, hiking, and live music.

Sam MazzucaSamantha (Sam) Mazzuca

Samantha graduated cum laude from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama with a BS in Hotel and Restaurant Management in 2012. In the summer of 2010, she studied abroad at the Catholic Institute of Paris to complete her French language minor. She returned to Nashville following graduation and earned a Master of Education in Organizational Leadership and Communication from Belmont University in 2014. Samantha has held roles in the hospitality industry focused on customer service and relationship development as a Sales Coordinator for Drury Hotels, Event Coordinator for Marriott and most recently as Conference Center Coordinator for a Nashville law firm. Samantha enjoys Auburn football, traveling, the beach, local craft fairs, and spending time with her family and dogs.

Carleen MatthewsCarleen Matthews

Admissions & CMC Administrative Assistant

Carleen joins Owen with 25 years of experience in the education and communications fields. She is a graduate of Vanderbilt ’79 (B.A. English & Political Science) and began her career as a member of Governor Alexander’s education policy staff in the early 1980’s. She then worked for two years as a lobbyist for a group of Tennessee non-profit hospitals, including Vanderbilt Medical Center. For fifteen years, Carleen served as communications director for Franklin Road Academy; most recently, she worked for Genesis Academy serving intellectually and behaviorally challenged students. She is a published author and editor with experience in grant writing, marketing, and public relations. Carleen has served on several advisory boards over the years, including the Tennessee Committee for the Prevention of Child Abuse. She is originally from the Chicago area and loves Cubs baseball. She has four grown children—all born at Vanderbilt! Her family loves to travel, read, cook, and entertain friends.
