Miguel Palacios

Professor Palacios’ primary research interests are in the areas of asset pricing and labor economics, particularly as they relate to human capital. He joined the Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management after completing his Ph.D. in finance at the University of California, Berkeley, where he served as a graduate instructor for several finance courses and was the recipient of numerous fellowships and awards, including the Dean Witter Fellowship and the Outstanding Graduate Instructor Award.

He is the author of Investing in Human Capital: A Capital Market's Approach to Student Funding, which was published in 2004 by Cambridge University Press, and coauthor of the monograph, Investing in Emerging Markets, which was published in 2003 by the Research Foundation of AIMR.

In 2001, Professor Palacios co-founded Lumni Inc., which structures and manages investment vehicles for financing education in which students agree to pay a percentage of their future income in exchange for financing of their education costs. His career experience also includes serving as a summer associate at ValuePartners LLC and an economic studies analyst at Sigma S.A. He began his teaching career by teaching physics at Colegio Los Nogales in Bogotá, Colombia.

Professor Palacios is an instrument-rated pilot and and avid water skier.
